I was contacted by Maggie Ayres from BBC Radio 4’s Soul Music programme and asked to pipe Auld Lang Syne and share the thoughts and emotions that I felt when I played it in Nekko Bay on Antarctica. It was a wonderful opportunity, it truly enabled me to allow myself to reflect on what an exceptional year this has been in so many ways. I have travelled to all 7 continents, seen a snapshot of the world, experienced how kind people are whilst fundraising for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Julia’s House.
Media coverage was brilliant and unbelievably I made National news in many countries. Every emotion has been tried and tested (vividly remembering my fear of heights – SkyWalk!)
So as I bid farewell to an incredible 2016 -I am eagerly looking forward to what 2017 will bring and I wish each and everyone of you a healthy and bright New Year!
